Youth Leadership
Empowering the next generation to lead, inspire, and shape our community.
At Hertfordshire Progressive Synagogue, our young people are not just the future of our community—they are active leaders right now. Through peer mentorship, national youth movement partnerships, and hands-on leadership training, we give teenagers the tools, confidence, and values to take ownership of their Jewish journey.

Madrichim (Youth Leader) Training Program
Our Madrichim program equips teenagers (ages 14–18) with essential leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Hands-on Experience: Graduates serve as assistant teachers in our Sunday primary religion school, lead games at Tot Shabbat, and assist with holiday events.
- Skills Development: Workshops covering group facilitation, event planning, child protection, inclusive teaching methods, and public speaking.
- Recognized Experience: Valuable leadership training that contributes directly to Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) awards, university personal statements, and CVs.

National Youth Movements: RSY-Netzer & LJY-Netzer
As a united Progressive congregation, HPS proudly offers our youth access to two vibrant national youth movements: RSY-Netzer (Reform) and LJY-Netzer (Liberal).
- Residential Camps: Winter and summer residential camps packed with outdoor activities, music, informal Jewish learning, and lifelong friendships.
- Israel Tour: Milestone summer travel experiences for 16-year-olds to explore Israel, build independence, and forge deep connections with peers from across the UK.
- Youth-Led Ethos: Both movements are run by young adults for young people, fostering independence, critical thinking, and social consciousness.

Teen Forum & Social Action
- Kabbalat Torah & Youth Hub: Regular evening gatherings for post-B'Mitzvah teens (ages 13–16) to debate contemporary ethical issues, explore modern Jewish identity, and hang out in a relaxed environment.
- Teen-Led Tikkun Olam: Driving social action initiatives across Hertsmere, from organizing local food bank drives and environmental projects to participating in interfaith youth summits.
